Dutch Country General Store Sets Opening Date in Historic Downtown Winterset, Iowa
UPDATE – 4/17/23
Great things are happening here at Dutch Country General Store and we are so excited about what is to come! However, we have encountered more equipment & fixture delays than we had expected. For this reason, we feel it is best to delay our Grand Opening at this time. It is important that when we open our doors for the first time here in Winterset that our customers have the best and most authentic Dutch Country General Store experience possible. We are still determining our official opening date. Please stay tuned for more information!
Thank you for supporting our store and we can’t wait to meet you all soon!
The much-anticipated third location of Dutch Country General Store™ is nearly here. Diana Upton-Hill, a spokesperson for the store states, “We could not be more thrilled to be joining the other businesses gracing Winterset’s historic district. The welcome we have received thus far in our planning and store preparations has been unbelievably warm. What a fantastic community.”
For those who have driven by the recently closed Ben Franklin store over the past few months, there have been some minor changes already made to the exterior (more coming soon). But most of the updates have been taking place indoors, where the team has been hard at work – led by the store’s founder, Levi Good, and several local tradesmen – preparing the space for Dutch Country’s beloved offerings. Good shared, “I have always enjoyed the hands-on part of running a store, so assisting with the build-out is really fulfilling. This time in Winterset has allowed me and my family to really immerse ourselves in the community as well. We feel really blessed to be here.”
So what exactly can visitors expect to find once the store opens its doors in late April? The Grand Opening weekend of Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29 will be particularly fun-filled! In addition to being greeted by a colorful array of old-fashioned and retro toys, inspiring home decor, high-quality bulk foods, delicious fresh baked goods, Winterset and Madison County souvenirs, mouth-watering candy (including 4,000 lbs of saltwater taffy in each location), heirloom quilts, candles, jar goods, and more, the store will be holding the annual Levi’s Crazy Days celebration, featuring live music, strolling balloon artists and magicians, a caricature artist, and a CRAZY sale of 25% off EVERYTHING in-store!
Other note-worthy offerings include a Piper’s Candy Counter, featuring chocolates from the Chariton, Iowa-based chocolatier as well as a full-service deli, where guests can select from a list of signature sandwiches, custom-order the sandwich of their dreams, or choose from dozens of top-quality, fresh-sliced meats and cheeses to enjoy at home for several meals to come.
